ISN/APSN/IBRO School
Fudan University, Shanghai, P.R. of China

School of Pharmacy, Fudan University,
Shanghai 200032, P.R. of China
16-21 June 2008

About the School:

The main objective of the School is to enable graduate students and junior postdoctoral fellows from the Asia-Pacific region to meet in an environment where they can acquire knowledge on recent advances in neurochemistry research and for them to have a platform from which to gain practical experience on neurochemical techniques.

The School will cover lectures, practical seminars and a variety of laboratory projects. These will focus on several technique-oriented areas in neurochemistry. Each student will be involved in 2-3 hands-on lab sessions in the participating university department.

Interaction between the students and teachers will be emphasized and encouraged throughout the School. Prospective participants are expected to attend the APSN symposium.

Eligibility: Graduate students and young postdoctoral fellows from the Asia-Pacific region are eligible to apply. Students will be selected on the basis of their academic record (especially peer-reviewed publications), stage of career and experience, as well as referee reports. Selection will be coordinated by the APSN School committee.

School Theme: Animal Model of Stroke

Hands-on technique available:

  • Post-stroke neurological score's evaluation and infarct size determination
  • mRNA extraction and PCR (RT- or real-time) for apoptotic genes
  • Protein extraction and Western blotting
  • Immunohistochemical staining for apoptotic protein expression
  • TUNEL/Hoechst staining
  • HPLC analysis for blood samples
  • GC/MS analysis for blood samples
